Tis the season to add an antipsychotic to your antidepressant. This is especially true for teachers and students as the semester winds down, but also helpful for people struggling with seasonal affective disorder winter type. Also, the antipsychotics may help you handle the stress of seeing your family a little bit better this year. I hope your holiday season is bright and you get to enjoy being your authentic self with the people you love most!
There was actually a conference about what to call antipsychotics back in the day and that is what they landed on?!?! But honestly, antipsychotics were super duper exciting when they first came out. Before this class of medications there really was nothing to treat psychosis and people were chronically ill in state institutions for years and years (in the US). That said, this over zealous excitement over the development of antipsychotics probably led to the deinstitutionalization and subsequent criminalization of mental health in the US so I stand by what I said. The name still isn’t great. You are more than welcome to call me a Monday quarterback though.
