Postpartum Anxiety Woes

Updated: Mar 12

Postpartum anxiety is so hard and causes so many woes. Your brain is telling you silly stuff. So many moms feel like they can’t leave baby with a trusted adult because of fears like:

“she won’t recognize me when I come back.”

“What if something bad happens?”

“He won’t stop crying”

“They won’t know what to do”

“I feel too guilty”

“What if I miss a milestone?”

“He won’t want me when I come back”

The worries and fears are endless.

A person in a black shirt holds their head, appearing distressed. Blurred motion and a pink-green tint create a surreal, intense mood.
A woman stands gripping her head, her expression conveying a sense of stress or frustration, with ethereal, wispy overlays adding an artistic and dramatic effect to the image.

I got myself through this anxiety with medication and therapy. One of my mantras as a mom is that “it’s my responsibility to prepare my kid for me to not be there one day”. I guess it’s pretty morbid, but it helps me prioritize my selfcare because when I take time for myself, I’m also giving him the opportunity to grow and mature a little (but not too much too fast). That said, I really did have to work up incrementally to being away from him and that’s okay. We all have our struggles and they all have different solutions. So you do what works for you and remember to give your baby the opportunity to grow.
