It’s just your luteal phase! PMDD

Updated: Jan 8

It’s not just you! So many women struggle with mood and anxiety disturbances during the second half of their cycle. It can especially confusing for someone without a mood disorder the rest of the month who aren’t seeing a psychiatrist. There are treatment options, the most common being Prozac, Mg/B6, or Ca taken throughout the month or just during the luteal phase.

Dosing varies:

Calcium about 1200 mg daily during the second half of cycle or throughout the month

Magnesium oxide 250 mg daily for at least 60 days to improve symptoms.

B6 was not dose dependent and effective doses varied from 40-100 mg daily for improvement of symptoms taken during the second half of the cycle or throughout the whole month.

PS. Women with ADHD are at higher risk of hormonally mediated mood disturbances like PMDD.
