Ehlers Danlos is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder and it’s only 1:5000? Autosomal dominant means there is a 50% chance of passing down the disorder. There’s so many types and variants hypermobility spectrum disorders. These patients can be so complex and their family histories are so fascinating. Even if the person does not have the full syndrome, they often have some symptoms. My first clue in as a psychiatrist is a person reporting or experiencing bizarre reactions to antidepressants. This does not happen with everyone that has a hypermobility spectrum disorder, but it definitely points me in the direction of asking about other symptoms like Interstitial cystitis, POTs, IBS, MCAS, Migraines, hypermobility, frequency of injuries, any special trick joints, chronic pain, and family history of symptoms. It seems it takes so long for people to get a diagnosis and then when they finally do they reach an okay now what? I think mental health providers need to be much more aware of these disorders and I am not alone.
