All Psychiatrists should be Reproductive Psychiatrists

As a psychiatrist most of your patients are female and all go through hormonal changes throughout their life cycle. I love reproductive psychiatry. It’s so rewarding, but I do struggle with ambivalence about this because honestly I think it should not NEED to exist. This knowledge SHOULD just be considered standard of care for ANY psychiatrist or mental healthcare provider. Females deserve more than to be an after thought of medicine and psychiatry. No wonder they have increased risk of having any mental illness…
As a teacher, I simply teach reproductive psychiatry as the standard of care because that’s how it SHOULD be.
That said, I realize that I live in a world that is not perfect and women are an afterthought. So until that changes, reproductive psychiatry is where it’s at!
